Night Photography

Oftentimes, when taking a night portrait there isn't enough ambient light. Compensating for the lack of light most people will use their built in flash. Yes, this will give you the light you need, but the light from the flash on the camera is very flat and, at times unflattering. Fixing this look of direct flash from the camera can be changed by investing in an off camera flash unit. I currently use the nikon sb-600 as my off the camera flash. Instead of having the flash go off directly at the model, put the flash unit on a stand,  and a soft box to the left or right of it, to give the photograph a dynamic look.

Every picture you take you learn something new!!
